How to Graph on the TI-84 Calculator

Use this workflow for a basic function graph, then adjust the window or use graph analysis tools as needed.

1. Open the Y= editor

Press Y=. Move to Y1= and enter the function.

2. Enter a function

For y = x² + 2x − 3, enter X, the power, 2, +, 2X, −, 3. Use the calculator’s X variable key rather than typing a letter through ALPHA.

3. Graph it

Press GRAPH. If the graph is not visible, press ZOOM and choose 6:ZStandard, or set appropriate values in WINDOW.

4. Find a zero

  1. Press 2nd then TRACE to open CALC.
  2. Choose 2:zero.
  3. Set a left bound and right bound around the intercept.
  4. Confirm the guess to calculate the coordinate.
Graph tools depend on the calculator mode and the function being displayed. Check the window and whether the function is enabled before assuming an equation is wrong.
