How to Use Statistics on the TI-84 Calculator
Here is a common workflow for entering list data, calculating one-variable statistics and creating a scatter plot.
1. Enter data into lists
Press STAT → 1:Edit. Enter values in L1. Use L2 for paired data such as x and y values.
2. Calculate 1-Var Stats
- Press STAT.
- Move to CALC.
- Select 1:1-Var Stats.
- Specify L1 when required by the model/OS workflow.
- Press ENTER to calculate.
Typical output includes the mean, sums, sample and population standard deviation, and summary values such as minimum and quartiles.
3. Create a scatter plot
- Put x-values in L1 and y-values in L2.
- Open STAT PLOT with 2nd → Y=.
- Turn Plot1 on and choose the scatter plot type.
- Set Xlist to L1 and Ylist to L2.
- Use ZOOM → 9:ZoomStat to fit the data.
